Albuquerque Music Teachers Association
The Albuquerque Music Teachers Association is the premier affiliation providing independent music education in New Mexico. Individual members from Albuquerque and New Mexico teach singing and the understanding and performance of piano, flute, violin, guitar, organ, and harp. An active schedule of events encourages individual music teacher development and provides a variety learning and performing opportunities for students in the many musical specialties.
Information in this music teacher website describes the many attributes of AMTA. An informative directory of music teachers includes mini-resumés of association members. Also listed are individual member websites containing added detail about music education, performance experience, music studio information, and study recommendations for learning voice, piano, violin, or other instrumental specialization. The detailed calendar lists in-house enrichment opportunities for its teaching members, including but not limited to the book discussion group, regularly scheduled programs, special workshops, and prominent speakers. Additionally, members are encouraged to participate in state and nationally sponsored conferences and utilize the MTNA resource base. The organization is further enhanced by business partners. Sponsors of the website include Charles Pianos, the only authorized Steinway representative in New Mexico, Music Mart, the largest sheet music dealer in New Mexico and the Southwest, and piano tuning specialist, Jim Ahrend.
The Albuquerque Music Teachers Association (AMTA) is affiliated with The Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico, Inc. PMTNM, an association of professional music teachers in New Mexico, and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) in which the state is a member of the Southwest Division. Nationally Certified Teachers of Music (designated as NCTM) have met standards of excellence set by MTNA in designated teaching specialities.
The most important component of the Professional Music Teachers in Albuquerque is represented by the students we strive to serve. Students of AMTA members are the ultimate beneficiaries of the professional growth provided by their music mentors. In addition to teacher growth, the Association makes available a variety of opportunities for students to perform for the public, interact with their peers, and be evaluated by professional adjudicators. AMTA exists to make it possible for every student to attain excellence in the performance and appreciation of music. Descriptions of opportunites for student growth are further detailed in this page.
